Frequently asked questions

Need more information? Open a question below.

Why do you ask about my itinerary, vaccination history and health?

This information is needed for safe, appropriate travel advice. Previous vaccinations show what protection you already have. Medication, medical conditions or reduced immunity can affect which vaccinations or other measures are appropriate.

When should I schedule an appointment before departure?

Schedule your appointment as early as possible before departure. The protection you need depends on your destination, travel duration and personal situation. Some vaccinations require more than one appointment. Personal advice can still be useful if you are leaving soon.

Can I make an appointment for more than one person or for my family?

Travel advice and fees are personal. When booking, say that you are travelling with several people and ask whether a family appointment is possible. Keep each traveller’s itinerary, vaccination details, medication and relevant health information to hand.

How is it assessed whether I need malaria tablets?

This depends on malaria risk in the areas you visit, your travel circumstances and your personal situation. Sometimes mosquito protection is most important; in other cases malaria tablets may be advised. The travel nurse assesses what suits your trip.

How is it assessed whether altitude-sickness medication is suitable for me?

This is assessed using your itinerary, ascent rate, sleeping altitude, opportunity to acclimatise and any previous altitude sickness. Only use altitude-sickness medication after personal advice.

Can I be vaccinated during my appointment?

Vaccines can generally be administered during your appointment. Some vaccines require several doses; the nurse will advise you about this.

Who provides the travel advice?

Our bachelor’s-level travel nurses are BIG-registered and LCR-certified. They provide advice in accordance with LCR protocols, applied to your personal situation.
